浄智寺は、鎌倉幕府第5代執権北条時頼の三男である北条宗政が亡くなった折、その菩提を弔うために1281年頃に創建されました。当時は中国（宋）からの渡来僧も多く、最盛期には七堂伽藍を備え、塔頭も11寺院に達しました。現存する鐘楼門（しょうろうもん）や本堂の様子などより、「宋風」という当時の中国の様式をうかがうことが出来ます。本尊の木造三世仏坐像は神奈川県の重要文化財に指定されています。また「木造地蔵坐像」（国指定重要文化財）や「木造韋駄天立像」（市指定重要文化財）は鎌倉国宝館におさめられています。

境内は国の史跡に指定され、寺域は源氏山ハイキングコースにある天柱峰まで広がっています。その境地は昭和の初めから文化人に好まれ、映画監督小津安二郎、日本画家小倉遊亀などが暮らしていました。境内の墓所には作家澁澤龍彦など、文人たちが眠っています。鎌倉に住むフォトグラファーの佐藤均さんとのコラボNFT。撮影日 2022年6月20日。限定1枚のみ発行。https://jochiji.com/

Jochi-ji Temple was built around 1281 to mourn the death of Hojo Munemasa, the third son of Hojo Tokiyori, the fifth regent of the Kamakura shogunate. At that time, many monks from China (Sung Dynasty) came to Japan, and at its peak, the temple had 7 halls and 11 pagodas. The present bell tower gate and main hall show the Chinese style of the time, called "Sung style". The principal image of the temple, a seated wooden Sansei-Butsu statue, is designated as an important cultural property of Kanagawa Prefecture. The "Seated Wooden Jizo" (designated as a National Important Cultural Property) and "Standing Wooden Vidaten" (designated as a Municipal Important Cultural Property) are housed in the Kamakura National Treasure Museum.

The temple grounds are designated as a national historic site, and the temple area extends as far as Tenbashira Peak on the Genjiyama Hiking Trail. Since the beginning of the Showa period (1926-1989), the temple was favored by cultural figures, including the movie director Yasujiro Ozu and the Japanese painter Yugame Ogura. Writer Tatsuhiko Shibusawa and other literary figures are buried in the cemetery on the grounds. This NFT is one of the special collaborative works with local photographer Hitoshi Sato.
